Welcome.
The team are pleased that you have found your way to us. This is the first of many blogs which will appear over the coming months. We will be providing blogs around teaching, teacher-life, subject specialism and taking care of yourself and students. We hope you find them useful.
Introducing Conduit
Conduit is a project that has been on my mind for several years, especially since I moved from teaching full-time into remote working within educational publishing. My own teaching history is eclectic. I’ve trained and managed within many sectors of education in Scotland: Secondary English, Additional Support Needs and Primary. I moved to a Scottish island and began to work for an Educational Publishing company alongside my teaching. I promptly noticed gaps in the provision for Scottish teaching colleagues. Whilst the primary sector was well provided for, Secondary educators were not.
Conduit aims to tip the balance. After launching in August, Conduit has published a growing number of resources to support Secondary teachers. Primarily, we are focusing on resources to support English teaching but have had some input with Maths, Geography and the RSHP curriculum. Hopefully, many more subject areas will develop our collection of resources. You can find our website here.
The Premise
I’ve been a member of SLT. I know how challenging it can be to support your colleagues to deliver an effective and proficient curriculum. I’ve also been a teacher feeling the pressure; observations; curriculum planning and delivery; assessment results; and trying to ensure that lessons are exciting and engaging when you have little ‘left in your tank’. Conduit can help to strike that balance, and here is how it works:
Conduit resources:
-
Connect knowledge and skills.
-
Help to bridge the gap between the Broad General Education and the Senior Phase.
-
Are created to support teachers to deliver the Curriculum for Excellence.
-
Are developed by qualified subject specialists who have recent experience of or are currently teaching in Scottish schools.
-
Are high quality.
-
Are ready for delivery by educators.
-
Are visually engaging and academically stimulating.
-
Are professionally graphically designed by skilled artists.
-
Can help to start a lesson, introduce a topic/context/theory or provide a means of delivering a plenary or assessment.
-
Can usually be edited to fit your own teaching style, curriculums plans or students’ needs.
-
Make teachers’ work easier.
-
Have dyslexic alternatives as standard, wherever possible.
Conduit resources are not:
-
A curriculum plan.
-
Resources to be delivered in isolation.
-
Resources for use in place of an educator.
-
Resources which detract from teaching, learning, discussion and thinking.
What Can You Do?
The Conduit team is passionate about what we do. We want to support our colleagues. We want to provide resources that are relevant and indispensable to you. However, we do need to know how best to deliver that for you.
You can do that by sending User Requests to us so that we know what kind of resources you need or are missing from your collection. You can interact with us on our Social Media channels. Please do follow us, we regularly share newly published resources or information.
